The checks that take ten minutes
Look up the ABN on the proposal and confirm the registered entity, its status and its registration date. Compare the entity name with the name on the insurance certificate. Then check the address, the phone number and the email domain for consistency with the website. None of this is difficult and none of it requires a subscription, and it removes a category of risk that is genuinely awkward to deal with afterwards.
Look at the contact details themselves. A business using a generic free email address rather than its own domain is not automatically a problem, particularly for a sole operator, but it is worth noting alongside everything else. What matters is whether the picture is coherent: a registered entity, an address that exists, a phone number that is answered, and documents that name the same business.
