Structuring a fair trial period with a new Cronulla cleaning provider

Providers sometimes offer a reduced trial and buyers sometimes ask for one, and both make the exercise less useful. A trimmed scope produces a result you cannot extrapolate, because the thing you are worried about is whether the full arrangement holds up under normal pressure. Run the actual schedule at the actual price, and accept that the point of a trial is to observe an ordinary month rather than a good one.

Make the length meaningful. Four weeks catches the routine but misses everything periodic, and periodic work is where most arrangements quietly fail. Eight to twelve weeks usually includes at least one scheduled periodic item, a public holiday and a staff absence, which are precisely the events that reveal how a provider operates when the schedule does not run perfectly and how quickly they recover the schedule afterwards without being chased.

Write down what a good result looks like before the trial begins, area by area, in plain language. Entry glass free of marks in the morning. Amenities restocked and dry. Bins emptied and the bin area clean. It does not need to be technical. It needs to be specific enough that two people looking at the same area would reach the same conclusion about whether the standard was met.

Then decide who checks and how often. A weekly walk of ten minutes by one nominated person is far more useful than an informal impression collected from whoever happens to complain. Record what you find, including the weeks when everything was fine, because a trial that only documents problems produces a distorted picture of how the arrangement actually performed and makes an honest assessment much harder to defend later.

Agree at the outset what happens at the end: the arrangement continues, it ends, or it continues with specified changes. Say so in writing before the trial starts. A provider who knows the decision points is more likely to raise a problem early rather than hoping it passes unnoticed, and you are less likely to drift into a permanent arrangement simply because nobody made a decision.

If you decide against continuing, say why. It costs you five minutes and it is the only useful thing the provider gets from an unsuccessful trial. It also protects you, because a vague ending occasionally becomes a dispute about whether the arrangement was ever really a trial at all. Confirm the end date, the final invoice and the return of any keys in the same message.
