What the document covers
A national police check reports disclosable court outcomes as at the date of issue. It is a snapshot, not a monitoring service, and it does not update itself. A check obtained three years ago describes the position three years ago. That is not a criticism of the instrument; it is simply the limit of what it does, and buyers regularly assume a broader assurance than the document provides.
It also covers one individual. If a provider tells you their staff are screened, the useful follow-up is how many people that includes and whether it extends to casual and relief attendees. The regular cleaner being screened is the easy case. The person sent at short notice on a Friday is where the practice either holds or quietly does not and where an otherwise sound process turns out to have an exception in it.
